Natural Lice Treatment

There are actually two ways to treat head lice: the artificial way or the natural one. However, the artificial way is becoming less popular among people, thus giving more credit to the natural way. Besides popularity, the effectiveness of the artificial method couldn’t keep up with the demands of people because those head lice are becoming immune to this kind of method; for example the pesticide-based shampoos – not to mention that they could cause health treatments.

Moving on, for those of you who opt  Using Natural Head Lice Remedies, you can try the most old-fashioned way of removing head lice manually. Search for adult lice by carefully weaving through the hair in the scalp and crushing them to kill them. However, there are certain downfalls in this method, 1.) You won’t be able to eliminate the nits as they can’t be seen by the naked eye. 2.) It is time-consuming, 3.) It requires you to repeat the method at least every week.

If that doesn’t work for you, try natural plant oils. Coconut, castor oil, and tea tree oils are some examples, and they’re quite effective in removing head lice. These oils act by stopping the breathing capabilities of the lice, thus suffocating them and killing them eventually. Nits are also killed off by the oil, coating them and preventing them from acquiring food. To do this, apply the oil to the scalp and leave it for a couple of minutes, then wash it off with soap and warm water. Promising as it may be, in some instances the oil treatment was ineffective.

There’s no harm in trying the oil treatment, but if it really didn’t have the desired effect, then try alcohol and vinegar. Vinegar removes strong adhesives, including those used by lice to attach nits on the hair. Removing nits are vital for every lice treatment, and vinegar can help you with that. However, vinegar treatment isn’t really intended to cure lice infestation. Alcohol on the other hand soothes the scalp temporarily from itchiness and is found to be effective in treating head lice. Be careful not to use these on broken skin as they may cause skin irritation.

The cold sensation of alcohol soothes the scalp but kills the nits. Same with heat; it kills nits. But don’t bother to use it to soothe the itchiness. The target of this method is only the nits. A heating rod or a hair iron is used to apply heat on the hair; however, you cannot apply heat to the scalp, therefore missing out on the adult lice on the scalp.

And if none of the above methods solved your problem, then try Vaseline. It is a kind of petroleum jelly, and yes, it could be used as an effective treatment for head lice. Vaseline is applied to the hair and scalp, smothering the nits and lice and making it easier to kill them as you wash it away. Leave the Vaseline on your head for a few hours – it may be time-consuming, but it’s quite effective.
